By far one the most recognisable, memorable and epic internet meme of recent times, bed intruder begun as a series (attempt at) news report at a house intrusion where Antoine Dodson chased out an assailant who tried to rape his sister. How he explains what occurred is epically funny that you forget the whole premise of the story in the first place.

What follows is a music video created by the genius’s by at Auto Tune the News, that became such a massive hit, it was brought onto itunes, and apparently earned enough to get Mr Dodson out of the ghetto.

Hello fellow lol’vers, 

After seeing the title of the post I assume it was followed by a roll of the eyes, and a exasperated sigh. Yet fear not, this is not another one of those top internet meme lists out of a numerical number, no sir, it is in fact my personal favourite memes (ones I could remember), out of a numerical number.

As Benji Fran once said, “Originality is the art of concealing your sources”.

Speaking of originality, or the lack of it, let’s start off the list with something hilariously stupid….

1) Lolcats!

Trying to explain lolcats to a newbie (I’m down with the kid’s lingo) is like trying to explain to someone how to get a date. Yeah you start off thinking you have a plan, but as soon as you see that confused face, it all goes to hell. It’s like the time when I saw this girl on the train and I was like heyyyy baaabbyy annndd……ahh welll errr, lolcats, they’re hard to define.

Don’t understand the gramma? Good, that’s the point.

As Penny from the big band theory states, “they can’t spell because they’re cats and it’s cute”.

2) Star Wars Kid

What do you get when you film a metal pole wielding, Canada star wars nerd in a school basement? Well 1 minute and 49 seconds of hilarity of course!

Who hasn’t been this kid once, flailing around with an imaginative lightsaber, kicking the empire’s ass. It’s just natural people, my mother said so.

The video spread quicker than Paris Hiltons legs (too easy) on p2p sites and later grew even larger with on YouTube with remix’s.

The kid filed a lawsuit against the schoolmates that spread the video, stating that they had essentially ruined his life. We weren’t laughing at him, we were laughing thanks to him.

I found his lack of faith disturbing.

3) Leeroy Jenkins

Leeeeeeeeeeroy mother fucking Jeeeeeeeeenkins.

A video from the world of warcraft video game has a team of warcraftians….? Preparing themselves for a battle against goblins or some shit, when suddenly, out of nowhere, leeroy Jenkins charges in alone, screaming his battle cry. Needless to say, this doesn’t go to well with everyone else, and…. watch the damn video already and find out.

4) Rickroll

Unless you have been frozen in ice for the last 15 years, or you’re North Korean, you should know what this is.

Starting from the bowls of 4chan (literally), the Rickroll’s premise was simple.  Trick someone into watching the music video of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley (really?) by making them think they were about to watch something else, what, you may ask? I don’t know, a Cat doing something stupid.

5) This Is Sparta!

THIS. IS. SPARTA!!! is a meme inspired by the now infamous scene from the movie 300 in which the Spartan dude shouts the line before kicking him down a pit.

There have been tones of gifs and videos on this, even a disco tech remix, I like, you like, you watch.

6) All Your Base Are Belong To Us

Ahh broken English, how I relate to you. Coming from a Croatian family who immigrated to Australia, some of the funniest moments I have ever experienced are of my parent’s interpretation and pronunciation of the English language.

Same premise here, minus my parents.

“All Your Base Are Belong To Us” originated from the opening cut scene of the videogame Zero Wing, made by a Japanese game company for a European market. It’s safe to say, there were some mishaps in the dialog.

The ironic thing is that most people spreading the meme never actually played Zero Wing (no shit) yet the groundswell caused by message boards, and fan made films, has guaranteed it a place in pop culture, until we forget about it.

7) It’s Over Nine Thousand!

I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z (popular anime, like Pokemon, okay probably not like pokemon), I lol’ved the show, the over the top fight sequences, and episode long power ups used to blow my still developing nerd mind.

The meme itself was born from an episode where two characters gage the protagonist’s unexpected power, with a over the top reaction. .

Nappa: “VEGETA! What does the scouter say about his power level?”

Vegeta: “IT’S OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAND!” *crushes scouter*

Nappa: WHAT, NINE THOUSAND!?

8) Epic Fail

We have all had epic fail moments, hopefully this blog isn’t among one of mine. This meme has become so integrated in today’s pop culture; it is now a part of our normal vocabulary.

There has been a tone of viral videos and images of moments in time, when people, fail. There is even a popular blog Fail BLOG, a website dedicated to sharing these moments. 

Youtube is also another great source of these fails, who knew?

9) Chuck Norris

What started as a Vin Diesel meme as the toughest man on the internet, quickly changed when the people on the interwebs decided Chuck Norris was a bigger badass (mainly thanks to Conan O’Brien’s walker texes ranger lever).

What followed are endless facts on why Chick Norris kicks ass, literally. Even the Italian prime minister cannot escape his wrath.
